1 Hour : Make it : Leaf Placemat

Materials needed:

Transparent contact paper
Scissors
Leaves

Instructions:
Go for a quick walk in your backyard, neighborhood, or park. Help your child collect an assortment of leaves--at least ten different colors and types. Look for leaves that are in good, dry condition. Once at home, have your child arrange the leaves in an area the size of the placemat you will make. Encourage her to put the leaves close together, even overlapping a bit. Next, cut two pieces of contact paper and remove backing of one piece. Carefully transfer leaves to the clear plastic; you may want to hold the sticky paper still while your child places her leaves. When all the leaves are placed, remove the backing from the second piece of contact paper and slowly smooth it over the leaf arrangement, matching edges as best as you can. Trim as needed.
